Farnborough, 21 July 2010 – His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee for Bahrain International Airshow and Farnborough International Ltd (FIL) today signed an agreement to formalise their partnership to jointly organise the Bahrain International Airshow 2012 (BIAS) which will run 19 – 21 January 2012.
BIAS is a unique airshow concept. Developed specifically as a result of in-depth sector research, the event is targeted at the aerospace industry itself, delivering a personalised experience, access to high-level delegations, opportunities for on-the-spot customer demonstration flights and the demonstration of unmanned aerial vehicles from Sakhir Airbase, the Airshow’s purpose-built home. January of this year saw the Kingdom’s inaugural Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) take place. Delivered in partnership with Farnborough International Limited, the event’s overwhelming success has paved the way for today’s announcement. The ceremony, which took place at the Farnborough International Airshow, welcomed His Highness, Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee for BIAS, who signed the agreement with Ian Godden, Chairman of A|D|S and FIL. Captain Abdulrahman Al Gaoud, Undersecretary for CAA and Vice Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, was also present to sign a sponsorship agreement with Gulf Air as Official Carrier for the Airshow and a Memorandum of Understanding with Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) as Ground Handling service provider. H.H. Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa said: “The Kingdom of Bahrain is proud to be extending its partnership with Farnborough International Ltd following the success of this year’s inaugural Airshow. The 2012 Bahrain International Airshow will continue to deliver a personalised event, focused on the industry itself, free of traditional flying and demonstration limitations due to the Airshow’s unique location and bespoke facilities.” Sheikh Abdulla continued: “Aside from Bahrain’s long and historic association with aviation, BIAS has continued to help forge even stronger links between Bahrain and a number of international aerospace organisations who, like so many other global businesses, see Bahrain as a natural gateway to the Gulf’s trillion-dollar market. Bahrain’s own investment in aviation is growing rapidly; from aircraft to training and maintenance to airport infrastructure, the Kingdom continues to embrace the economic advantages of this rapidly growing sector and BIAS has a significant role to play in strengthening this focus”. Ian Godden, speaking on behalf of FIL, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Kingdom of Bahrain for their second international airshow. The year-one event attracted delegations from 25 countries with 94 aircraft on display and 40 participating companies. The show finished with deals worth somewhere in the region of one billion dollars signed and visitor numbers of 30,000.” In addition, Ahmed Nemat Abdul Rahim, Assistant Undersecretary for Aviation Services of the CAA, signed an agreement with Quaynote Communications, UK to host a conference in Bahrain entitled: ‘The Future of Business Jets in the Middle East’ in January 2011.
