· $37.5 billion of business agreed to date · FIA two day ‘Meet the Buyer’ event sold out · Themed Conference Programme highly attended
At the half way point of this year’s Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), event organisers Farnborough International Limited (FIL) are delighted to announce that an estimated $37.5 billion of business have been agreed showing yet again that the FIA is the place to do business. “We’ve seen buoyant activity in all areas of the aerospace, defence and security areas. After a slow down in sales across all sectors in recent years, it is really encouraging to see confidence returning to the market, says Amanda Stainer, Director of Exhibitions and Events at FIL.All along the way we’ve had in our minds the importance of creating a Show structured in a way best positioned to facilitate business being done. We recognise how important this is to the industry and to demonstrate that FIA is the global benchmark in airshows at all levels. ” FIL has done this in a number of ways through the introduction of a number of new initiatives for 2010. ‘Meet the Buyer’ was a new show feature and is a structured programme of pre-booked meetings arranged by FIL between buyers and suppliers. Taking place between 10:00 and 13:00 hrs on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 July, 15 minute meeting slots were set up for buyers from 46 companies to meet companies offering products and services they were interested in purchasing. Buyers purchasing requirements were pre-determined to allow those taking part to get the most out of these meetings with the intention of facilitating ongoing dialogues. The event sold out in advance and FIA saw 800 of these meetings take place over the two days involving 159 supplier companies. In addition, the themed Conference Programme, with high-profile keynote speakers, is another new innovation for FIA 2010 which has added value and has had huge attendance over the first three days. These informative and thought provoking conferences have set the agenda for the show each morning with Aerospace, Defence and Space already covered with Security the chosen subject matter for Thursday 22 July with the keynote speech delivered by Rt Hon the Baroness Neville-Jones, Minister of State for Security and Counter-terrorism.
